Q1: Why did Hazrat Umar (RA) weep?
Reason of Hazrat Umar (RA) weeping:
During the days of famine Hazrat Usman kept on rejecting the offers of Hazrat Umar (RA) because he actually wanted to distribute the flour in the name of Allah. Therefore, when Hazrat Umar came to know about his intentions he was so touched by the generosity of Hazrat Usman (RA) that he wept.
Q2: Why did the Jew agree to Hazrat Usman’s offer?
The Jew’s Agreement:
When Hazrat Usman (RA) went to the Jew and offered to buy the well from him, the Jew did not agree with him at first but later thought it might be more profitable for him to make Hazrat Usman (RA) his partner, as he was a chief businessman. He, therefore, agreed to sell half of his share in the well to Hazrat Usman (RA) for twelve thousand dirhams (silver coins).
Q3: What simple steps can you incorporate into your life to foster generosity?
Steps to foster generosity:
We should believe that generosity is the highest virtue and is liked by Allah, and his prophet (peace be upon him). We should lead simple life, lessen our needs and control our wishes. Being a Muslim it is our duty to help needy and poor people. In this way, we will save money and will be able to spend generously.
Q4: How did the Jew learn a bitter lesson?
A bitter lesson:
When the Jew agreed to sell half of his share in the well to Hazrat Usman (RA) so all the people including the Jews and Muslims carried enough water on the day appointed for Hazrat Usman (RA) and the Jew did not get any money. No one came to buy water from him on his turn and thus he was compelled to sell his other half of the well.
